ABOUT
Be too optimistic to scare. Too positive to doubt. And too determined to be defeated.

As someone who has experienced depression since age 18, I know how it can consume your life and make you feel like nothing else matters. The good news is, it’s simply not true. The same energy from chemical imbalances is the same energy that creates beauty in our lives. Walking, running, or using tourism as a form of self-awareness helped me find my truth within. I use this to find new ways to help others do the same thing too with their own unique story.
As the owner of Tourism Gym, I help others release stigma and create beauty not only in their brains, but also in in their lives. My unique combination with my experience as an international marathoner and certified brain health coach has allowed me to understand how important it is for all who are suffering from mental illness like myself at one point find recovery though movement and creativity.
Jovan Abernathy was introduced to the research done at Amen Clinics by Daniel Amen and his colleagues while creating walking tours. It helped her further understand her own mental health adventure. After being a mental health recipient for 20 years, Dr. Amen’s work with SPECT brain scans made her want to join his mission in eliminating the stigma of mental illness. She completed her certification in Brain Health Coaching from Amen Clinics in 2020. All methods and research in this program are from Amen Clinics and years of her own experiences.
Jovan Abernathy loved the experience of touring the world by running marathons. Although she is not competitive, she understands that you get the best and safest view of any city from the marathon route. In 2017, she officially became a run coach from the United Endurance Sports Coaching Academy. She now coaches women to “stop and smell the roses” while completing long distances on foot.
